Ava Spangler PhD Candidate, Geosciences, Penn State University

Ava Spangler is a PhD student in geology who is studying how climate change will affect the intensity, frequency, and location of flooding in urban areas. She does this by modeling where stormwater goes after large storms. She then uses a computer optimization tool to identify possible solutions to meet multiple goals. The tradeoffs that this identifies are then discussed by researchers and community stakeholders.
