Larry Band
Institutional PI, Water and Water Quality Theme Team Lead
Professor, Environmental Science, University of Virginia
Larry Band works to understand and incorporate principles of how unmanaged ecosystems function into urban ecosystem restoration. He focuses on how forests and tree canopy affect flooding and drought, the availability of high-quality fresh water, carbon and nitrogen cycling, and vulnerability to changes in climate and land use. He is developing computational tools and software to facilitate collaborative, participatory research, management, and design of watershed restoration projects.
